Helleborus Pink Frost™
A clump-forming perennial with a graceful, upright habit and nodding, cup-shaped flowers that emerge in late winter to early spring. The blooms open as soft pink and deepen to rich rose tones as they mature, often displaying a lovely gradient of colour on the same plant. Each flower is adorned with a central cluster of golden stamens, adding a delicate contrast. The leathery, deep green foliage has a slight silver sheen and remains evergreen, providing year-round interest.
Cultural
Prefers partial to full shade, though it can tolerate some morning sun. Thrives in well-drained, humus-rich soil with good moisture retention. Performs best in neutral to slightly alkaline soil but adapts to a range of conditions. Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in early spring and autumn to encourage strong growth and flowering. Remove any damaged or old foliage in late winter before new growth emerges to keep the plant looking tidy and healthy. Deadheading spent flowers can prolong the blooming period. Generally low-maintenance, but may occasionally attract aphids or suffer from fungal diseases such as black spot if air circulation is poor.
Landscape Uses
Helleborous are a perfect plant for cottage or formal gardens. They are excellent mass planted under trees or in other shaded areas of the garden. Look fantastic planted under Betula ‘Moss White’ or with other traditional favourites such as Camellia and Daphne.
