Nandina domestica 'Colourscape'
'Colourscape' showcases the reddest new growth of any Nandina in our collection. As the seasons progress, its finely textured foliage transitions from vivid red to deep, lush green. In spring, delicate white flowers bloom in clusters, providing a lovely contrast, while bright red berries emerge in winter.
Cultural
Thrives in full sun to partial shade, with ample light enhancing the intensity of its red new growth. It prefers well-drained, fertile soil though can tolerate a range of soil types, including clay and sandy soils, as long as drainage is maintained. This variety is generally frost-tolerant and can withstand light to moderate frost; however, in regions with harsh winters, it's advisable to provide some protection, especially for younger plants. Pruning is best done in late winter or early spring, just before new growth begins. While it is relatively pest-resistant, it can occasionally be affected by aphids, spider mites, and scale insects.
Landscape Uses
Its vibrant foliage and unique form make 'Colourscape' an excellent choice as a focal point in garden beds, in pots, or for low hedging. This variety beautifully complements mixed borders, pairing well with other perennials, shrubs, and ornamental grasses such as Nepeta cataria 'Nova Blue,' Loropetalum 'Plum Gorgeous' PBR, and Miscanthus sinensis 'Adagio.'
