Hosta 'Blue Angel'
'Blue Angel' has large, heart-shaped leaves in a blue-grey hue. The thick, glossy foliage contrasts nicely with other plants in the garden. In mid to late summer, it produces tall spikes of pale lavender flowers. This combination makes it an attractive choice for shaded areas. In winter, the foliage will die back, allowing the plant to conserve energy, and it will reemerge in spring, bringing fresh vibrant leaves.
Cultural
This variety thrives in partial to full shade and prefers well-drained, fertile soil rich in organic matter, with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. Regular watering is essential, especially during dry spells, as the soil should remain consistently moist but not waterlogged. A balanced, slow-release fertilizer can be applied in early spring to support healthy growth. After blooming, spent flowers should be removed, and once the foliage begins to yellow for the winter, the plant can be cut down to the ground. Hosta can attract slugs and snails, so some care may be needed to manage these pests.
