Senecio candicans
An eye-catching, low-growing succulent with fleshy, silvery-white leaves that have a soft, powdery coating, giving the plant a frosted appearance. The leaves are thick, elongated, and lance-shaped, arranged in a rosette or spreading mound. In late spring to early summer, it produces tall, branching stems that bear clusters of bright yellow, daisy-like flowers. The contrast between the silvery foliage and vibrant blooms creates a striking visual effect.
Cultural
Plant in full sun to part shade, with well-draining soil or potting mix as they do not like wet feet, you can allow the soil to dry out between watering. Fertilise once a year, with slow-release fertiliser, unless in sandy soil. In sandy soil use a liquid fertiliser monthly. Prune back older leaves if they become droopy. While it is a perennial, it does not like frost and in cold areas may need to be pruned like an annual.
Landscape Uses
Use this Senecio to brighten a shady corner, as part of a succulent rockery, or in a sensory garden for their amazing leaves. You could create a low hedge or plant en masse or as a feature plant in pots indoors or outdoors. The colour of the leaves is great in many colour schemes, whether blending in with soft cottage gardens or contrasting against darker green plantings.
