Hydrangea macrophylla Blue Ball
Hydrangea macrophylla are timeless, beloved shrubs that captivate with their vibrant flowers, which come in shades of blue, white, red, pink, and purple. The 'Ball' varieties, in particular, are renowned for their striking large, spherical clusters of blooms, which make a spectacular display throughout the summer. Warners have dedicated decades to growing and perfecting the best selection of Hydrangeas, ensuring you receive the finest and most vibrant varieties to enhance your garden.
Cultural
Macrophylla thrive in a part-shade position, protected from harsh sun and strong winds. They prefer rich, porous, and consistently moist soil to perform at their best. After flowering, it's ideal to deadhead and prune them to maintain their shape; if necessary, they can be cut back quite hard without harm. For optimal growth, feed them with an organic slow-release fertiliser in late spring.
Blue varieties need acidic soil with a pH of around 4.5 to 5 to keep their colour. To enhance their blue flower colour, soil can be treated with aluminium sulphate or a hydrangea bluing tonic.

Landscape Uses
Hydrangeas, with their large, showy blooms, make stunning focal points in garden beds and borders. Compact varieties thrive in large pots, making them perfect for adding beauty to patios, balconies, or courtyards. Their long-lasting, vibrant flowers are ideal for cutting and displaying indoors, and they are especially popular for wedding displays and floral arrangements. Perfect for both cottage and formal gardens, Hydrangeas pair beautifully with other traditional favourites like Camellias, Magnolias, and Azaleas.
