Camellia sasanqua 'Paradise Blush' Ball
From late autumn to early winter, it produces an abundance of semi-double blooms with delicate white petals edged in a soft pink blush. The dense, glossy dark green foliage provides a rich backdrop that enhances the beauty of the vibrant flowers.
Cultural
Camellia sasanqua prefer a position in full sun to partial shade, thriving in well-drained, acidic soil with a pH between 5.5 and 6.5. While they favour acidic conditions, sasanquas will tolerate other soil types as long as there is good drainage. Regular watering is essential, especially during dry periods, to maintain healthy growth. In early spring, apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser formulated for acid-loving plants to encourage new growth. Light pruning is recommended after flowering to maintain the plant’s shape and remove any dead or diseased wood, ensuring not to cut off developing buds. Keep an eye out for common pests such as aphids, spider mites, and scale insects, and take appropriate measures to manage them.
Landscape Uses
Topiary balls are ideal for formal gardens or modern Japanese gardens, though can add structure to any garden. They are great planted in clusters, or used in pots to frame an entrance or walkway. In Autumn and early Winter the sasanquas abundance of flowers will add colour and texture to your garden.
