With many common names such as Yellow Ginger Lily or Kahili Ginger, the Hedychium gardenerianum is a bold tropical plant, though can grow in and is popular in subtropical areas. It is a large quick growing herbaceous plant with vivid, fragrant yellow flower spikes on display in summer. It will naturally die down in winter and re shoot in spring.

Cultural

Prefers a part shade position with moist well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Does not do well in harsh winters, so is best planted in a protected area or in a container. Cut foliage down in winter. Is considered an environmental weed in NSW and QLD.

Landscape Uses

Great for tropical or lush gardens, plant with other flora from our Urban Lush range such as Elaeocarpus eumundi, Aucuba ‘Rozannie’ and Arthropodium 'Matapouri Bay'.
