Coniferous evergreen, native to woodland areas of Japan, China and Korea. Foliage is a dark green with pale yellow coloured shoots arising in spring and a growth habit of fastigiate/ columnar.
Cultural
Prefers a part shade position though can tolerate shady conditions better than most needled evergreens and also has a good heat tolerance. Grows best in moist, sandy, well-drained soils. Its hardiness makes it ideal for the coast and drier areas. Requires minimal watering when established. Well suited to harsh coastal conditions and for poolside planting. Has quite an upright narrow growth habit requiring only the occasional trim to maintain shape.
Landscape Uses
Fantastic as a statement plant, works well as a dramatic mid-sized focal point or for hedges and clusters, will add structure and vertical lines to any garden. A great solution plant for narrow spaces .Ideal for the Aussie Mediterranean garden
