This compact, slender variety has double, white flowers that absolutely contrast beautifully against its dark green foliage. The hint of yellow stamen beneath the petals has depth to the flowers. Far from fragile however this is a hardy variety that will tolerate heat and frost.

Cultural

Camellia sasanqua prefer a position in full sun to partial shade, thriving in well-drained, acidic soil with a pH between 5.5 and 6.5. While they favour acidic conditions, sasanquas will tolerate other soil types as long as there is good drainage. Regular watering is essential, especially during dry periods, to maintain healthy growth. In early spring, apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser formulated for acid-loving plants to encourage new growth. Light pruning is recommended after flowering to maintain the plant’s shape and remove any dead or diseased wood, ensuring not to cut off developing buds. Keep an eye out for common pests such as aphids, spider mites, and scale insects, and take appropriate measures to manage them.

Landscape Uses

The ideal thin-growing hedge for alongside walkways or where space is limited. Looks beautiful when planted in containers for clipping into upright cones.
