One of the most popular sasanqua planted in Australia. Setsagekka's glossy, dark green foliage brings a lush feeling to the sunny areas of your garden while the abundant, large, single white flowers with wispy petals and yellow centres add elegance.

Cultural

Camellia sasanqua prefer a position in full sun to partial shade, thriving in well-drained, acidic soil with a pH between 5.5 and 6.5. While they favour acidic conditions, sasanquas will tolerate other soil types as long as there is good drainage. Regular watering is essential, especially during dry periods, to maintain healthy growth. In early spring, apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser formulated for acid-loving plants to encourage new growth. Light pruning is recommended after flowering to maintain the plant’s shape and remove any dead or diseased wood, ensuring not to cut off developing buds. Keep an eye out for common pests such as aphids, spider mites, and scale insects, and take appropriate measures to manage them.

Landscape Uses

Setsagekka is another versatile Camellia. Ideal for espaliers, standards and topiary, however when planted together they will work themselves into a great hedge, perfect as a screen from the neighbours or a north wind. It will also hold its own in a flower garden as a feature tree, it’s large, open flowers make it great for planting near fruit and vegetable gardens to draw in the pollinators.
