Commonly known as New Zealand Rock Lily, 'Matapouri Bay', is an evergreen species that forms clumps of strappy, arching leaves that are glossy green and slightly recurved, creating a lush and textured appearance. In late spring to early summer, 'Matapouri Bay' produces slender stems adorned with clusters of small, star-shaped white flowers with a hint of pale blue or lavender at the centre.

Cultural

Prefers a part shade position with well-draining, though moist soil. Deadhead spent flowers and remove any damaged leaves to encourage continuous blooming and a tidy appearance. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in spring to promote healthy growth and flowering. Avoid excessive fertilization, as it can lead to lush foliage at the expense of flowers. May occasionally be affected by aphids, slugs, or fungal diseases such as powdery mildew. Monitor regularly and treat as needed.

Landscape Uses

This showy and popular plant is ideal for borders, rockeries, and mass planting in garden beds and under trees. It is excellent for seaside gardens and makes an effective container plant.
