Carpinus betulus 'Fastigiata'
Upright deciduous tree with a compact branching habit. Leaves are glossy and green, appearing golden-yellow to yellow-green in Autumn.
Cultural
A hardy tree from the Betulaceae family that thrives in sunny positions within moist, well-drained soils. Low maintenance and tolerant of a wide range of environmental conditions, including air pollution, drought and partial shade. May benefit from mulching after being planted. Requires minimal pruning if cultivated as a tree, yet responds well to heavy pruning if grown as a hedge.
Landscape Uses
Clipped formal, deciduous hedge or screen, used widely in Europe. Responds well to being clipped into creative shapes like a pleached deciduous hedge (block on stilts). Make sure plants are well mulched and watered in Summer to prevent any leaf burning.
