Betula pendula 'Moss White'
Commonly known as Silver Birch, Betula pendula 'Moss White' is a graceful, upright deciduous tree with slender branches adorned with small, diamond-shaped leaves that emerge in spring. The leaves are bright green in colour, turning to a golden-yellow in autumn before falling. What sets 'Moss White' apart is its bark, which is a striking combination of white and silvery tones. The peeling bark reveals layers of cream and cinnamon hues, adding interest to the landscape even in the coldest months.
Cultural
Prefers a full sun to partial shade position in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil. Keep the soil moist during the tree's establishment period. Once established, 'Moss White' is moderately drought-tolerant but will benefit from regular watering during dry spells. Minimal pruning is required, primarily to remove dead or damaged branches. Prune in late winter or early spring when the tree is dormant.
Landscape Uses
Perfect as a specimen plant or in groups or avenues. When planted in groups their lovely white trunks are enhanced.
