Acacia cognata 'Copper Tips'
A beautiful weeping Australian native with slender, soft lime-green leaves. New growth features striking copper tips, creating a stunning contrast and a delicate, shimmering effect in the sunlight. In mid-spring, it may produce small, pale yellow, ball-shaped flowers.
Cultural
Prefers a position in full sun to part shade and thrives in well-drained soil. It can tolerate a range of soil types, including sandy or loamy soils. Once established, this plant is drought-tolerant and requires low water. Light feeding with a slow-release, low-phosphorus fertiliser in spring is recommended, with native plant fertilisers being the best choice. Pruning should be done lightly after flowering to maintain its shape and encourage bushy growth; heavy pruning can reduce its natural weeping habit. While generally resistant to pests and diseases, it is important to watch for root rot in poorly drained soils. Good air circulation should be ensured to minimise the risk of fungal issues.
Landscape Uses
Works fantastic as an informal screen or as a feature plant, with its beautiful weeping foliage making it effective in most garden styles. It is an ideal background plant for modern Australian native gardens and blends beautifully with plants like Banksia praemorsa, Elaeocarpus reticulatus, and Lomandra longifolia 'Tanika' pbr.
