Camellia japonica 'Emperor of Russia'
An old favourite. Strong upright growth with rounded deep green leaves. Mid-size, brilliant scarlet flowers with small golden stamens amongst twisted inner petals.
Red varieties will grow well in a partly shaded warm position. Well drained, slightly acidic soil. Dense shade restricts flowering. Fertilise in Spring and Summer with a specific Camellia fertiliser or a complete organic fertiliser. Prune after flowering to maintain a compact shape.
Fantastic flowering garden shrubs, very hardy and drought tolerant once established. Suitable for growing in containers in small courtyards or entertaining areas. Plant with other traditional favourites like Azaleas, Pieris and Helleborus
Height 1.5m to 4m
